The difference between ordinary lathes and CNC lathes

The feed system of an ordinary lathe includes a feed box and an apron, and it uses the lead screw and feed rod for workpiece surface turning; CNC lathes have CNC systems, feed systems, and hydraulic systems, etc., and the processing of workpiece surface threads is carried out in machining centers. The latter is more conducive to production management.

The differences between ordinary lathes and CNC lathes are as follows:

I. Different structural composition

The feed system of an ordinary lathe includes a feed box and an apron, and it uses a lead screw and a feed rod for workpiece surface turning; a CNC lathe has a CNC system, a feed system, and a hydraulic system, etc., and the processing of workpiece surface threads is carried out in the machining center. The latter is more conducive to production management.

II. Different mechanical processing methods

For ordinary lathes, polishing workpieces requires manual operation, and workers must manually operate the tool according to the lathe operating regulations to carefully process the parts; CNC lathes, on the other hand, directly process product parts according to the instructions issued by technicians through data control.

III. Different processing precision

Ordinary lathes can process fewer types of parts, and due to their insufficient automation level, the processing precision and part quality are not as good as CNC lathes; CNC lathes can process parts with complex shapes by changing the control program, and the stability and repeatability of processing quality are higher.

IV. Different applicable conditions

Because ordinary lathes are manually operated and more flexible, the equipment has a large load and is not suitable for processing complex parts, making it more convenient for processing single items; CNC lathes have a smaller load on the equipment, and the various parts are more precise, making them suitable for more complex processing and mass production of mechanical parts.

V. Different construction and maintenance costs

Ordinary lathes have low construction costs and small investments, and can be manually debugged before use. The maintenance of ordinary lathes mainly involves wear and tear between parts, and the maintenance cost is not high; CNC lathes have high operating costs and large investments, and require multiple debugging before use. The preliminary preparation work is complex, and regular maintenance includes all systems, including CNC programs, and the maintenance cost is high.

Features of CNC machine tools

Machining parts on CNC machine tools mainly depends on the machining program. Unlike ordinary machine tools, it does not require the manufacture and replacement of many tools and fixtures, and frequent adjustments to the machine tool are not needed.

The concept of CNC machining

The working principle of a CNC machine tool is to represent various operations (such as spindle speed change, workpiece loosening and clamping, infeed and outfeed, starting and stopping, automatic coolant shut-off) and steps required in the machining process, as well as the shape and size of the workpiece, using digital codes.
